Keep a Go-To-Market Strategy And Revenue Operations Escalation Log That Moves Work

Maintain a GTM escalation record that shows the blocked outcome, accepted owner, next response and verified resolution.

Two colleagues discussing work

Make the entry actionable at first read

Write the affected activity, observed problem, time raised and consequence of delay. Link the relevant source record and include what has already been tried. Keep the description factual so the receiving owner can distinguish a symptom from an assumed cause.

Assign a unique reference and check for an existing escalation before opening another. A shared log should bring related work together without obscuring separate issues that require different decisions.

Track acceptance and the next response

Name the person responsible for receiving the escalation and the action requested from them. Track whether they have accepted it. An entry assigned to a team name with no acknowledgment can remain unattended even when everyone can see it.

Record the next response date or agreed checkpoint and the backup escalation route. Use established incident procedures where the issue meets their criteria. Avoid creating a parallel log that competes with the organization’s incident owner.

Example: a launch asset is awaiting approval

Illustrative entry: the publication coordinator cannot release an asset because the designated reviewer has not confirmed the final version. The log links that version, the requested publication time and the outstanding decision.

The launch owner decides whether a qualified backup can review it or the release time must change. The coordinator records the answer and informs dependent teams. The escalation closes after the approved version and publication action are confirmed, not merely after a reminder is sent.

Keep temporary actions visible

When an owner approves a workaround, record its scope, expiry or review condition and responsible person. Keep the permanent issue open if the workaround does not resolve it. This prevents an interim arrangement from becoming an undocumented operating rule.

Update the existing entry as the issue changes. Preserve the sequence of accepted owners and decisions so the next person can continue without reading scattered message threads. Keep sensitive evidence accessible only to authorized participants.

Close with evidence and learn from recurring issues

Ask the requester or appropriate owner to confirm that the blocked activity can proceed. Record the resolution and any remaining limitation. Include what would reopen the escalation, such as a repeated failure or an unmet follow-up commitment.

Review recurring issues for patterns in unclear ownership, missing inputs or slow approvals. Assign a specific process improvement when warranted. The log should help remove recurring obstacles, not become a growing archive of reminders that never lead to a decision.
