Triage an Aged Go-To-Market Strategy And Revenue Operations Backlog by Evidence Quality

Reconstruct the outstanding commitment

Start with the original request and its current destination: a campaign asset, account handoff, launch task or customer response. Identify what was promised, to whom and by when. An old creation date does not explain whether the work still matters.

Check whether the request has already been completed elsewhere, superseded or withdrawn. Link the relevant evidence rather than closing an item simply because nobody has replied recently. Keep unresolved customer commitments visible.

Group work by the missing input

Separate items awaiting a source file, an approval, a named owner or a technical correction. Record the specific missing input and the person who can supply it. A generic blocked status hides the difference between these situations.

Review groups with their responsible owners. Several campaign tasks may depend on one legal-approved asset or one product answer. Resolving that shared dependency can unblock the work without sending a separate reminder for every row.

Prioritize consequences alongside age

Show the affected launch, customer promise or downstream task beside the age of each item. Ask the accountable lead to set the order when priorities conflict. The coordinator prepares the comparison and keeps the decision visible.

Keep urgent work from obscuring older unresolved commitments. A short review of aged items can identify requests that need cancellation, a revised promise or a new owner rather than another routine reminder.

Example: an old partner launch request

Illustrative case: a partner launch request has been open for several weeks. The launch date has moved, but two account teams still expect the original collateral. The coordinator links the revised schedule and records which teams have not received the update.

The partner owner confirms whether the collateral is still required and who must be notified. The record stays open until the agreed correction reaches those teams. Changing the date in a central tracker alone does not resolve the communication gap.

Close against a stated outcome

Record the delivered result, accepted cancellation or approved revised commitment. Link the destination evidence and name the person who confirmed it. Preserve the history of the request so a later reviewer can understand the outcome.

Track recurring causes of aged work, such as unclear intake requirements or unavailable approvers. Choose a specific improvement with an owner and review date. A backlog exercise should reduce repeated waiting, not merely make the queue look younger.
