Keep the Go-To-Market Strategy And Revenue Operations Handover Intact Through a Role Change

Inventory work that remains open

List active campaigns, recurring reporting duties, outstanding approvals and customer or partner commitments held by the departing owner. Include the current state, source location, next action and expected date for each item.

Ask about work tracked outside the main queue, including meeting promises and pending replies. Completed projects provide context, but the receiving person most urgently needs to know what still requires action and who is expecting a response.

Assign the receiving owner and review boundaries

Agree who will take each responsibility and which decisions need separate approval. Identify gaps that require interim coverage. The incoming person should be able to reject an unclear assignment and ask for the missing information before accepting it.

Review required system access with the responsible administrators. Record requested and confirmed permissions separately, and coordinate changes to the departing person’s access through the approved process. A shared password is not a handover mechanism.

Walk through the next real task

Choose an upcoming deliverable and have the receiving owner locate its source, explain the next action and identify the reviewer. This reveals missing context more reliably than reading a long handover document together.

Document unanswered questions with a responsible person and resolution date. Update recurring meeting ownership, distribution lists and escalation contacts so future requests reach the new owner rather than continuing to depend on the departing colleague.

Example: transferring a partner campaign

Illustrative handover: a coordinator leaves while a partner email is awaiting approval. The receiving owner gets the current copy, approval thread, intended audience and send deadline, then confirms who can authorize publication.

The transfer record notes an unresolved audience question and assigns it to the partner lead. Acceptance covers the known responsibilities while keeping that question visible. A short follow-up after the first delivery checks that access, source links and review contacts worked in practice.
