Map the Sources Behind Go-To-Market Strategy And Revenue Operations Decisions
Connect each GTM decision field to its authoritative source, update owner and known limitations.

Map the fields that people act on
Choose a specific decision or workflow, such as launch readiness or campaign reporting. List the fields people rely on: approved copy, release date, audience definition, owner and current status. A source map should answer where each value comes from.
For every field, identify the original record, the system location and the person responsible for maintaining it. Distinguish the source from a dashboard or document that copies the value. A convenient summary may be useful without being authoritative.
Record timing and transformations
Note when the source was updated and when a downstream view last refreshed. Explain any filter, calculation or manual change between the original record and the displayed value. These details often explain an apparent disagreement between two views.
Keep links within the access boundaries of the underlying information. The map can identify a responsible contact where readers are not entitled to open the source directly. It should not become an unrestricted export of sensitive records.
Route conflicts to the field owner
When sources disagree, record the conflicting values and their dates, then ask the designated owner which governs the decision. Preserve the resolution and its basis. Do not choose a value merely because it appears in the most polished presentation.
Update affected summaries after the decision and confirm that the correction reached their readers. If a field has no agreed owner or governing source, keep that gap visible until the responsible lead assigns one.
Example: two launch dates circulate
Illustrative conflict: a sales deck shows one launch date while the approved release record shows another. The source map identifies the release owner and reveals that the deck copied an earlier planning version.
The owner confirms the current approved date. The coordinator updates the deck through its review process and links the release record for future refreshes. The durable fix is a clear source relationship, not another manually maintained date in a separate spreadsheet.
