What Share of Go-To-Market Strategy And Revenue Operations Documents Reach Expiry Without a Review?
Review documents approaching expiry with clear ownership, renewal evidence and confirmation that the current version reached the people who need it.

Separate expiry from a routine review date
Define the document types and dates included in the review. Distinguish an actual validity end date from an internal editorial review date or a reminder. Use the responsible owner’s source for the requirement rather than assuming every old document has expired.
This is a proposed administrative review, not a legal determination that a document is valid or sufficient. Choose a defined period and include renewed, unresolved and missing records. Keep the original version and date history available so a replacement file does not erase the evidence of what happened.
Trace the renewal path
Record the document identifier, responsible owner, governing date, required lead time and evidence location. Identify who can request a replacement, who can approve it and where the accepted version must be delivered. A calendar reminder alone does not show that these responsibilities have been accepted.
Separate a renewal request from a received draft, an approved replacement and confirmed delivery. Keep unclear requirements and missing dates visible. Where the document affects a customer promise or a regulated process, route interpretation to the appropriate responsible owner rather than improvising a new validity rule.
Measure the stage that actually failed
For documents in the chosen period, report how many were reviewed before the applicable date, how many had accepted replacements and how many remained unresolved. Show the underlying counts and the number of records whose status could not be established.
Classify delays by the stage involved: no owner, late request, external response pending, approval pending or replacement not distributed. Compare like document types. An external response delay and an internal failure to send the request need different follow-up even when both produce an overdue item.
Confirm the destination received the usable version
Illustrative finding: a renewed partner authorization exists in a shared folder, but the launch team is still using the superseded copy. The document owner confirms the accepted version, updates the approved destination and records acknowledgement from the receiving team.
Retain the action history and mark obsolete copies according to the existing document-control process. Review open exceptions with their owners and escalation dates. A useful report shows which required document is usable in its destination, not just how many renewal emails were sent.
