Where Does Go-To-Market Strategy And Revenue Operations Queue Time Actually Go?

Trace where GTM requests wait so older work receives a specific next action rather than a cosmetic status update.

A professional handshake

Start with the open inventory

Save the queue at a defined observation time. Include items that remain open, items completed during the review and work that reopened. Define when age begins, such as accepted intake, and preserve the original timestamp when a request changes owner.

Group comparable work before reviewing delays. A routine copy amendment and a new partner launch have different dependencies. This is a proposed operational review, not a report of measured queue performance.

Reconstruct the waiting intervals

Use the activity record to separate time awaiting ownership, requester input, specialist review and delivery. Record when each state began and ended. If the history is missing, label the interval unknown instead of assigning it to the most convenient category.

Avoid counting overlapping waits twice. A request can need both audience approval and a source file; record both blockers while keeping one elapsed timeline. Distinguish elapsed calendar time from working time if the report uses both.

Find the action that can release the work

For each old item, name the current blocker and the person who can resolve it. Confirm whether the request is still needed. Preserve authorized cancellation separately from completed delivery so closing records does not masquerade as faster service.

Illustrative finding: a campaign draft has waited for a regional approval that was sent to a former owner. The coordinator identifies the current approver, forwards the existing evidence and records the new decision date without resetting the request age.

Report the unresolved tail

Show the age and blocker of the oldest unresolved items alongside completed-work summaries. Include counts by work type and the number of unknown histories. A short average among completed requests can conceal a small group of abandoned ones.

Assign follow-up dates to the actual blockers and revisit them with the owner. Compare later periods using the same definitions, noting changes in incoming volume and scope. Keep evidence of delivery or cancellation with the original request.
